fitting bathroom carpet::I have layed a lot of carpet.
You dont need to make a template at all.
This is how a carpet layer would do this.
Try and follow me here.
Cut the carpet to fit the size of the bathroom or a couple inches larger.
Then cut it to fit the room except the wall where the toilet is.
Now with the carpet lying flat fold back a flap of carpet in front of the toilet, you will be looking at the back of the carpet flap.
Now cut a strait line in the flap all the way to the edge of the carpet.
This cut will be about 2 feet long starting at the front of the toilet base,to the edge of the carpet.
Now make slits in the carpet all around the toilet and you will find the carpet starting to form around the toilet base.
Now you just very closely cut off all the little flaps around the base of toilet.
To just meet the toilet base.
Behind the toilet the flaps will meet perfectly from when you made the first long cut in the flap.
Use a new sharp blade in your utility knife to this.
A dull blade will make it difficult and sloppy.
This also the same method i use to lay vinyl floor in a bath.
I have done hundreds of houses and baths in my youth and never used a template or ever met another installer that used a template.
I guess if you wanted to make a template you could use this same method to make the template.
But i think you are more likely to make a mistake if you use a template.
